Transcript

Buachaill aimsire a bhí ann tá fada ó shoin, agus nuair a tháinig sé abhaile chuigna[1] mháthair, d'fhriostaigh[2] sí dó goidé an seort beatha a bhíodh sé a fháil.

"Ó," ar seisean, "cál ceannann san oíche, an fuíollach ar maidin, preátaí fuara insa meán lae agus ar ais arís cál ceannann."

Translation

There was a servant boy a long time ago, and when he came home to his mother, she asked him what sort of food he was getting.

"Oh," said he, "colcannon at night, the leftovers in the morning, cold potatoes at midday and back again to colcannon."

Commentary

This appears to be a humorous story about the traditional food of colcannon; it does not seem to have any deeper folkloric significance.
